Verdun

Wellington Street
Wellington Street becomes pedestrian only in the summer!

Verdun is a beautiful and quiet neighborhood located just south of downtown Montreal. It features a lively restaurant, café, and bar scene, as well as a grocery stores, banks, pharmacies, shops, and other services.

The main commercial street in the neighborhood is Wellington Street just a short 5 minute walk from Chez Lovely Swan. In the summertime Wellington becomes a pedestrian only street where local merchants put patios and displays out on the street.

Jazz Fest
Montreal Jazz Festival comes to Verdun!

In 2019, before the COVID pandemic, Wellington Street here in Verdun was chosen as the location for the first ever satellite location for the famous Montreal International Festival of Jazz.

A little further down the street you come to the edge of the island and find the Verdun Beach. Recently opened in the large park along the Saint Lawrence river, Verdun Beach is a public sand beach where you can enjoy swimming or just lying in the sun.

In the park you can also find picnic areas, baseball diamonds, swimming pools, tennis courts, and large grassy stretches. There is a series of bike paths leading through the park that can take you all the way to the bottom of the island or across to Isle des Souers (Nun’s Island).

Enjoy riding along the scenic river located in the park to the south-west, or along the canal to the north-east. The canal bike paths can take you to downtown, the old port, or to Concordia, McGill, or UQAM.

If you’re not up for a bike ride, public transit can take you where you need to go. Check out the metro map here. There are also buses that will take you directly to downtown, ETS, or any number of other locations around the city.
